Saturday the 14th (1981)
If you want to watch a good horror parody, then I'm afraid I can't recommend the American film Saturday the 14th. It meets some basic requirements for a parody, but there are actually very few good humorous scenes. And I'm pretty sure you won't laugh out loud during the film. Maybe a scene here or there will put a smile on your face, but that's about it.
A Quiet Place (2018)
A Quiet Place has quite a few jump scares, some of which are somewhat shallow, but they do work. The incredibly oppressive atmosphere works too - in the movie theater you try not to even flinch, because you aren’t sure what would happen if you did. There are some excellent performances here, with young Millicent Simmonds in particular being incredible, and it makes absolutely no difference that she doesn't have to play a deaf girl. She carries A Quiet Place, which deserves all the attention it is getting.
Customer 152 (2016)
Tall Men tries to be scary, and let's face it, it might have even succeeded quite well, but it's simply not a film that can carry itself over two hours in a way that the viewer can enjoy. That’s a shame, because at the beginning I was rooting for the filmmakers. I was also rooting for them at the end, but this film simply didn’t have what it needed. Unfortunately, they just didn't have enough material to fill two hours to make the film good.
Hellraiser: Judgment (2018)
Hellraiser: Judgment is definitely not the best film of the series, but it is an improvement over the 2011 film. Maybe a big improvement. It's good, it's brutal, it's ugly, but it's still a reflection on our desires, what we want, how far we're willing to go when we want something, and who we're willing to destroy besides ourselves.
Would You Rather (2012)
Would You Rather has a good idea, but the execution is quite lacking in my opinion. There's good social criticism here, showing how selfish people are, but also how they can help each other even when it might not end up being the best thing for them. The point of Would You Rather is very strong, which is exactly the type I like. This made me like the film more, even though I didn't believe the plot at times.
Marrowbone (2017)
The Spanish film Marrowbone is not primarily a horror film, because it is also a family and human drama, and then there is also romance, even though its a bit on the darker side. Marrowbone focuses a lot on its finale, but I think some people may be disappointed with it. In the end, you realize that it was all about building atmosphere, but that also didn’t happen. There’s a bit of hypocrisy in it, wherein the creators knew it wouldn't have that much power, but that the viewer could be intrigued by the course of the film. Unfortunately, some of the characters and themes fade out into nothingness.
Mother Krampus (2017)
The British horror film Mother Krampus wants only one thing - to capitalize on the fact that Krampus has been a popular word lately. And that's about it. Actually, it doesn't have much to do with the Krampus phenomenon, as evidenced by the other distribution titles 12 Deaths of Christmas or The Curse of Frau Perchta. In fact, the use of the word Krampus is just a classic stupid marketing ploy. I don't think it's gonna do much for the film anyway.
The Gamma People (1956)
The British film The Gamma People isn't primarily a horror film - there's very little horror here, and it fits more into the classic 1950s B-movie classification. Yet it's definitely a film that has its charms and has aged pleasantly. It's not a movie for the masses, it's more of a little morsel, but as such it tastes pretty good. Simple and concise.
Recovery (2016)
Recovery is a film that won't offend you, and it’s kind of ordinary and probably won't evoke many horror feelings. That’s not to say that it has no potential. It has characters that are relatively good, the villain is definitely memorable, and yet his appearance is simple on the surface. In this sense, simplicity works in Recovery. Perhaps it’ll win you over.
Animus (2013)
The American horror film Animus is a contradictory film. The horror theme is very unoriginal, with every third film being similar to this lately. The first hour can be really awful in some ways and you hope it won't last longer than fifteen minutes, even though the film is almost the typical hour and a half. But the undergrowth part makes up for the wait and it's quite worth it.
