Straightforward and thoroughbred entertainment that looks like it came out of the eighties. Guy Pearce’s dry lines were the best that I’ve heard in a long time and killing convicts becomes funny at the moment when they depart this earth by triggering voice-triggered bombs with an F-word on their tongue. Maggie Grace looks super and overall she is really nice. The villain most deserving a mention is the main nutter, brother of the main capo, played excellently by Joseph Gilgun. The story is a variation on old Carpenter movies, crossed with Die Hard, with an ending that will have your eyes goggling. A laid-back relaxing ride. (27/05/2012)

Guy Pearce surprised me in this movie to the extreme. I knew the movie existed, but I’ve always been annoyed by the reviews which said that the camera is shaky and the whole thing sucks. In the end, I made time to watch the movie. And I have to say that it’s pretty easy to ignore the camera. However, what you can’t ignore is the perfectly written character that was played perfectly by Guy Pearce. The moment I saw his character I remembered the best action roles of the eighties. John McClane and so on. Guy keeps uttering one catchphrase after another, everything pisses him off, everything angers him. The kind of a good guy I grew up with. That’s why this movie made me so excited in the end. Nowadays, you don’t get to see these characters as much. (15/10/2013)

An incredibly cheap and essentially stupid movie, but it's beautiful that the people behind it are aware of it and are having as much fun as the audience, which unbelievably stares at the screen every few minutes. I didn't expect Guy Pearce to be this cool and for Maggie Grace to have such balls. Surprise on all fronts, or in other words, even with a few bucks, you can a pretty decent action that doesn't rely on a dumb script, but rather on the charisma of the main actors and a barrage of arrogant lines. Don't even try without activating Besson mode or your head will fly off. The rest of it is a loving B-movie with such a lack of self-reflection in any of its components that you'll choke on your fries more than once. How do you get rid of one of the characters the film no longer needs? Umm hmmm so maybe... got it, let's have an orbital station crash into a space prison! And yet this only happens when the viewer is already in complete zen because they've been in a long post-coital rip from arguably the worst digital chase ever, comparable to the rendering of the intros to 90s video games. Terribly boring. In the film, Guy Pearce does try to spread love and understanding in the style of John McClane, but the script does not give him enough sharp one-liners or enough straightforward situations. The number of explanatory captions at the beginning should have made someone think about it and rewrite the whole script in a striking 80's variation. Crossing a conspiracy poodle with an action doberman just doesn't work. (28/05/2012)
