Quo Vadis (1951)

English Another one checked off the list of "films to see before you die." And yes, we’re talking 1951 here, but you’d be surprised how timeless some of it feels. Of course, there are moments where you can clearly tell it’s a product of its time, but it's three hours of pure epicness. Back then, Hollywood didn’t just think it could do anything—it really could do anything. Where we use digital effects now, they had massive, breathtaking crowd scenes that make you hold your breath. The source material is brilliant, so it was bound to succeed. Grand, awe-inspiring, and only as dated as you allow it to be. An absolute cinematic experience.

The Report (2019)

English Definitely a film for those interested in American politics or conspiracy theorists who love to dig into what exactly went down in the Middle East. It’s pretty heavy on the courtroom drama, but there are some intriguing details hidden in the dialogue if you’re paying attention. Adam Driver delivers a great performance, though this movie isn’t really about him.

Emily the Criminal (2022)

English The whole time I was watching this, I couldn’t help but wonder if modern Hollywood has lowered my expectations so much that I’m now content with just the basics. Finally getting to see Aubrey Plaza in a substantial lead role gave me a chance to form an opinion about her since she’s become so influential in Hollywood. And honestly, it’s a pretty solid small-scale thriller about a desperate person pushed to the edge. Nothing groundbreaking, but it does everything it can within its genre, and that’s why I ended up giving it four stars. Plaza herself? Odd, but in a good way.

American Dreamer (2022)

English Completely average, and honestly, if it didn’t exist, the world would keep turning just fine. From what I gathered, it’s an adaptation of a New York stage play, so it probably had more depth at its core. Thankfully, Peter Dinklage leads the charge, making the whole thing bearable and even watchable. Sure, the creators once again lean into his height quite steretypically, but let's face it, that’s something that often comes with the territory for him. Surprisingly, the second half managed to stir up a few emotions, so it wasn’t a total waste of time. Definitely not a comedy, though—more of a slice-of-life story.

Monica (2022)

English This is what happens when you randomly pick something to fill an hour and a half of free time. Completely dull and lifeless, the story aims to focus on emotions and feelings, but it fails to deliver on any of that. It doesn't evoke anything in the viewer. And yet, we're talking about a promising director and talented actresses who certainly have more to offer—just not in this film, unfortunately.

Midnight in the Switchgrass (2021)

English Sometimes a movie is so bland and underwhelming that even a few familiar faces can’t save it. That’s exactly what happened here—it feels like the cast showed up just to support Bruce Willis, but unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to redeem it. In the end, it’s all about Bruce. Like many others, I was curious to see how he was doing in these later years of his career, and honestly, his performance was pretty low-key. He plays a mentor who doesn’t do much besides giving advice that no one follows.

Arthur the King (2024)

English A beautiful story about the bond between a man and a dog, proving that friendship can form anywhere—even in the middle of an adventure racing championship in the Dominican Republic.

Fool Me Once (2024) (series)

English My first encounter with Harlan Coben felt like something Hallmark would’ve adapted 15 years ago, but as the story unfolded, I really got into it. The plot is packed with nerve-wracking tension and surprises that hit multiple times per episode. The English setting, along with Michelle Keegan as a former Marine and Adeel Akhtar as the investigator, kept me hooked until the end—and it was worth it. Sure, it’s a bit overly emotional at times, but I can see why it’s one of the most-watched shows on Netflix.

The Phantom of the Open (2021)

English A classic, utterly unbelievable, and almost absurd British dramedy. I love these “based on a true story” films they do so well—you never quite believe it, but they’re always such a joy to watch. And Mark Rylance? Absolute legend, as usual.

'Salem's Lot (2024)

English A fun, refreshingly different horror with a delightfully B-movie vibe. Stranger Things set the tone for YA horror, and Salem’s Lot follows suit nicely. Plus, it's great to finally see vampires that are actually scary again, the way they should be.
