The Accountant (2016)

English Unfortunately, I didn't trust Ben Affleck with this character for even a moment (well, okay, in the action scenes let's say I did, but that's probably not what it was supposed to be about). Moreover, the story is one that can surprise the viewer, but surprise him with such unbelievable shenanigans that he can't help but shake his head at them.

The Lost City of Z (2016)

English People who compare The Lost City of Z to Indiana Jones and refer to its hero as Indy's predecessor probably lack judgment, insight, or both, and a pinch of common sense. The film, from which I didn't really expect much at first, reminded me of Lawrence of Arabia in the best sense. It's a similarly impressive adventure spectacle, somewhat old-fashioned (sometimes in a meditative style reminiscent of Terrence Malick), superbly written (searching, finding, prejudice...) and also acted. I was particularly surprised by Robert Pattinson, whom I've only seen in a small role in Harry Potter so far, and who definitely has something to say to the film world.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016)

English The first film definitely has its issues (the first half without tension, a number of unexplained things at the end), but so does this one, so I did not really notice any major qualitative drop. Perhaps only Kreamer's musical motif was a bit lacking for me, and the main villain could have been more charismatic. However, Tom Cruise is still convincing, Edward Zwick knows how to do the action and the other scenes, and that made me like the final restaurant unraveling in addition to the night shootout.

Going in Style (2017)

English A comedy that unfortunately few people would expect in movie theatres today. A great central trio and other characters, joke after joke (not all of them take on old age or illness) and at the same time a humanly sensitive story, reasonable runtime, excellent soundtrack and a lot of directorial toying that make it all flow from beginning to end. Moreover, the story managed to avoid some of the most serious clichés (and if not avoid them, then to knock them down in a very funny way), so I am clearly satisfied and I must say that I haven't had such a good time in front of the big screen for a long time.

Angels (2014)

English I liked it despite all the issues that I could look for (and find). High-quality acting performances by almost everyone involved (especially Bolek Polívka and Klara Melíšková), believable emotions and sentiment on the edge, skillful direction and excellent music by Michal Novinski, undoubtedly the most talented contemporary (Czecho)Slovak film music composer. The message of the film is: live, live, live, and don't waste your time on stupid things when you don't know how long it will last. I agree.

Dark Blue (2002)

English I've probably always wanted to see Kurt Russell as a corrupt policeman alcoholic, because from the beginning of this film it was clear to me that this role was really for him and that he would be great at it until the end. And he was. Dark Blue is a surprisingly good crime story, a little longer than I'd like, but with an interesting story and an emphasis on human conscience. In addition to Russell, Brendan Gleeson also performed brilliantly.

Guard 13 (1946)

English A decent noir movie - especially in the second half, it's one surprise after another (I like these stories in which everything seems to be solved, but it's in fact far from it). Thanks to the mostly believable acting performances and skillful direction by Frič, you will remember a lot from Guard 13, and Julius Kalaš did an above-standard job, because the music is downright great.

The Sign of Four (1987) (TV movie)

English The feature-length Sherlock Holmes has more time for everything - for Watson to be given the same space as Holmes, for the directing to win (all those shots through mirrors, which were enough even in "ordinary" episodes, are also here, and even more imaginative), so that the story flows at a pleasant and unhurried pace, and that the final explanation and narrative is impressive enough. It was successful again.

Warcraft (2016)

English The special effects took my breath away in such a way that in the first minutes I just stared in fascination at all those one hundred percent realistic digital Orcs, only to gradually begin to perceive them as completely full-fledged (or even better) flesh-and-blood actors. I didn't expect that. And fortunately, there were even more unexpected things in Warcraft, such as a few twists and turns through which the story set out. The battles were good, they had the proper energy, and every now and then someone died who I was counting on at least for the finale, if not for the next film. It's just a shame that the music wasn't a little better and that other races couldn't be used more. But maybe next time... Maybe.

The Story of Bean (1997) (TV movie)

English A very enjoyable and rich documentary. It didn't matter I'd already read or seen most of it elsewhere, because you can never have enough celebrations of such a brilliant comedian.
