Community - English as a Second Language (2010) (episode)

English If I were to write what I liked about this episode, I'd be staring at a blank space. It didn't hit the mark for me. Sure, there were a couple of moments that got a chuckle out of me, but the creators could've made more effort. I get it, not every episode's gonna be a banger like the one before, but still. / Lesson learned: If someone's pointing a taser at you, drop the keytar.

Community - Modern Warfare (2010) (episode)

English I was thrilled to rewatch the first paintball episode, even though I still remembered it quite well. After the mess that was the previous episode, this one came with an entertaining plot. It was like something straight out of an '80s action movie. You don't get full-blown action episodes in sitcoms all that often, for obvious reasons, so I'm extra hyped about it. / Lesson learned: Rock'n load!

Community - The Art of Discourse (2010) (episode)

English The previous episode revved up my excitement with its plot and humor, but this one was nearly catastrophic. Where did the screenwriter go wrong? However, I'm positive that if I were twelve, I'd enjoy the plot. Pants were getting pulled down, idiotic sounds were made, and food was thrown. What more could a little kid want, right? / Lesson learned: Don't act like an idiot.

Community - Contemporary American Poultry (2010) (episode)

English This episode was hands down the best one yet. As Lord Vetinari would put it: "If you were going to have crime, it at least should be organized crime." Now, I'm not endorsing any kind of crime, but I've got this weird fascination with movies and shows set in the organized crime scene, which is why this episode hit home for me. / Lesson learned: Always cover your back.

Enduring Love (2004)

English The movie gives us a peek into the messed-up human psyche after a tragic event. But man, I couldn't tell if my brain works in a totally different way or if the characters were just acting illogical in certain scenes. I would handle some situations completely differently, and the version presented to me seemed peculiar to say the least. Big props to Daniel Craig – he really held it together. The whole movie hinged on his performance, and even though I'm not exactly his biggest fan, I gotta give credit where it's due. The story would need to be more convincing for me to give a higher rating. / Lesson learned: Stay sharp. The world's full of some seriously twisted misfits (who might not even be to blame for it).

The Offer - A Stand Up Guy (2022) (episode)

English No surprises, another five-star rating. The creators wrapped up the previous episode with such a catastrophe that they had enough material to fuel the entire seventh episode. In other projects, something like this could easily turn into a filler episode, but here, that threat was nowhere in sight. As always, I kept my eyes fixed on the screen, devouring all the dialogue and having a great time. This is now the second series in a relatively short time where I don't mind at all that the creators have adjusted reality to their liking and added some fictional plot and characters. The first one was Nineties (2022). It's clear that when a group of people comes together, they can even win over a cynic like me. Well, I think that's the true mission of filmmaking - to convince even those who are often disappointed. / Lesson learned: The powerful often underestimate the shakiness of their position.

Community - The Science of Illusion (2010) (episode)

English The episode kicked off on a high note, but the creators managed to spoil it by the end. The pranks theme had potential, and despite realizing there wouldn't be any actual pranks, I still appreciated the dynamic duo of investigators Edison/Bennett. Abed was also delivering his usual top-notch performance, and I was leaning toward giving it a solid four stars. However, the tearful ending left me thoroughly disgusted. / Lesson learned: Check the direction of the wind before using pepper spray and back away afterwards.

Community - Beginner Pottery (2010) (episode)

English Third time in a row. The creators dished out a mix of elements that don't particularly thrill me, but also threw in some laughs – a formula they've stuck to for three episodes now. While I wasn't blown away, I also didn't feel let down, and that's a significant win in my book. The pottery course wasn't exactly my cup of tea (except for Annie), but the sailing adventure in the parking lot was hilarious. / Lesson learned: "Part of the crew, part of the ship." It's a quote in case you missed it.

Community - Basic Genealogy (2010) (episode)

English This episode felt quite similar to the previous one. I just wasn't thrilled. It seems the creators are quite stingy with humor. Yet, it wasn't a total disaster because I found myself genuinely enjoying it on more than one occasion. It would be a welcome change if the scriptwriter decided to ditch occasional moralizing and fully embraced the humor. / Lesson learned: Think very, very carefully before pressing G13.

In Good Company (2004)

English I previously gave four stars to this movie because, aside from its subtle humor, I appreciated the overall kindness it exuded. Fast forward, some time has gone by, I've evolved, and today I caught a rerun with a fresh perspective. It dawned on me that, unlike other aspects, the pervasive kindness in the film wasn't some natural charm but a strategic move by the creators. However, it didn't resonate with me this time around. I'm not slamming it as a terrible film, just saying it didn't stand out. It played out as a standard comedy that delivered amusement within its limits, but what struck me as genuine and human back in the day now feels contrived and targeted at naive viewers. It didn't disappoint, but it failed to leave an impression. / Lesson learned: Some experiences can no longer be gained today.
