English The tension of rivalry between John Travolta and Christian Slater doesn’t reach the massive proportions found in Woo’s similarly conceived Hong Kong classics, and in places the whole film slides from healthy good humor into unhealthy silliness. But the attractively sun-drenched setting in the Utah desert, Hans Zimmer’s dynamic score, the badass Hummers and Travolta’s bastard Vick Deakins are enough ingredients for two hours of decent action entertainment. English It's kind of an average example of its time and what action films represented in the 1990s. John Woo isn't as daring here as he is elsewhere (especially not as much as in his homeland), and the film isn't as cool or as gritty. Still, it's a fairly successful ride that takes you all the way to a classic ending. ()

English It’s a classic. John Woo was just getting the ball rolling, but even so, there is little to fault in terms of action. Some things are typically far-fetched, but I don't think there's any point in addressing that. ()

English An action flick that definitely doesn't offend and solidly entertains, but if you know anything of the Hong Kong work from this action god, it probably won't hold up. ()
