Three episodes from the lives of children living in WWII Poland emphasise the cruelty and damage caused by a conflict the small heroes cannot understand. This quietly heartbreaking but unsentimental short-story film by the Różewicz brothers, who had lost their brother during the Second World War, won several international awards. (Summer Film School)
