English Sofia Coppola already demonstrated in her first short film that she has a sense for strong female protagonists, a theme that will continue to resonate throughout her subsequent work. She also has a knack for a certain stylization, primarily evidenced here by the use of a black-and-white scheme. Otherwise, it's an example of how required reading can indeed be dangerous. An interesting idea with a clever outcome. ()
