Chief of Detectives Robert Ironside (Raymond Burr) is shot down by a sniper's bullet while vacationing at a remote cabin. Surviving the assassination attempt, Ironside is left paralyzed from the waist down. Confined to a wheelchair, he becomes the head of his own special police unit, solving crimes with a crack team of investigators on the streets of San Francisco during the turbulent 60s.
