The simple act of going to a café takes on a different meaning in Sööt’s classic work of 1960s Estonian documentary cinema. Older ladies and young people become objects of study, as if being observed by creatures from another planet. Employing a hidden camera, director-cinematographer Sööt creates entertaining, contrasting views of Tallinn’s social life, set to music from The Beatles and Handel in combination with off-screen commentary (the poetry of Arthur Alliksaar) and the latest discoveries about Mars.
