Emma'

This film tells the story of a rich family in 1960's South Sulawesi, Indonesia, where polygamy was practiced at the time. Athirah is a housewife who lives happily with her husband and son. But her life turns upside down when it's discovered that her husband is having an affair with another woman. Her son Ucu, in his adolescence, sees his mother's pain but is unable to do anything but blame his father whose affair is revealed to the whole town. Ucu's anger grows as his relationship with Ida, a girl he is in love with, turns sour because of the actions of his father. Given the time and place, Athirah has few options for recourse, but she does have an unshakeable will to protect her family. (Busan International Film Festival)
