Inspired by writer director John Carneys life and love for music, Sing Street tells the story of a 14-year-old named Cosmo growing up in 80s Dublin who must break free of a home strained by his parents relationship and money troubles, deal with his drop-out older brothers antics, and survive a new public school where the kids are rough and the brothers are tougher. Cosmo writes a song, forms a scrappy band with some school mates, writes more songs, and shoots some wicked music videos. How to shoot pop videos in a recession ridden country? Beg, borrow and steal. And steal. But when he realizes he cant save his family, he must make a family of his own. (Roadshow Entertainment)

This type of story will never get old. On the contrary, it will always be pleasant to watch. Then it’s only about whether the music, characters, and location of the movie are right for you. Well, and since I watched films in a similar vein and gave them 5 stars, I will give this one “only” four stars. Nevertheless, they are very solid four stars that shine very brightly in the realm of Irish cinema.

A lovely musical that excellently captures a certain era, presenting Ireland with its problems, although not in a very complex way. Primarily, it's a great musical film. The music here really grabs you. However, when it comes to the storyline, it just couldn't impress me, as it felt too clichéd.
