When young baseball player Hopper (Johnny Simmons) begins to crack under the pressure of his sport, he receives the help of Dr. Mobley (Paul Giamatti) in facing the personal trauma which overshadows his career, namely his relationship with his abusive father, Hopper Sr (Ethan Hawke).
