In the Bélier family, everyone is deaf, except dutiful sixteen-year-old Paula (beautiful newcomer Louane Emera). She acts as an indispensable interpreter for her parents and younger brother, especially in the running of the family dairy farm. Though her salt-of-the-earth father (François Damiens) has decided to run for mayor – spurred on by her vivacious but over-involved mother (indelibly portrayed by Karin Viard) – Paula's attentions are very much elsewhere. She's witnessed the handsome new boy at school sign up for the choir, and impulsively joined too. It's not long before her music teacher (Éric Elmosnino) discovers her considerable talent, however his encouragement only exacerbates the matter of Paula's independence... (Palace Films)

English I didn’t know any actors in this movie but I hoped for the good old French comedy which is usually nice and can surprise a viewer a lot. And I got it. The unknown actors created a fabulous comedy for all kinds of people which will become a famous classic one day in my opinion. The creators are making fun of everything and everybody in a very nice way. But at the same time they are telling a nice family story with a very emotional ending. I laughed a lot, I got emotional and in the end I had to admit I hadn’t seen such a great French movie in a very long time. Thumbs up! ()

English I'll confess straight away that I was expecting some clownish nonsense, but in the end, I got an immensely entertaining movie that, while a comedy, is primarily a film capable of conveying interesting themes in a humorous way yet gets to the heart of the matter. Moreover, it is not unnecessarily pathetic or sentimental. This was a pleasant surprise. ()

English A bit eccentric yet endearingly charming musical comedy about an unconventional family that nothing can easily shake. The French language is extremely melodic, which made the singing parts sound better, which in another language would probably lose their power. I didn't like some of the humorous situations, but otherwise, I enjoyed the film. (75%) ()
