Elephant Song

Trailer 1

Plots(1)

An eminent psychiatrist vanishes from his office; the last person to see him is a troubled patient named Michael. The hospital director, Dr Greene, is called in to interview Michael. Miss Peterson, the head nurse, understands all too well the devastating loss that still haunts Dr Greene and warns him to steer clear of this particular patient – to no avail. Michael prattles on about elephants and opera (with the occasional hint of murder and foul play) and lures the hospital director into a devious trap. Dr Greene's redemption will come at a hefty price. (Entertainment One)

English This might be the first time that I feel that I found Xavier Dolan interesting in a movie. I’ve never been a big fan of his and whatever movie with him Cinemax offered to me was usually not worth squat. But Elephant Song is different. Xavier portrays a weirdo, which is no strange thing for him. He is evidently that type of extravagant faggot (nothing against them) who likes to draw attention to himself. On the other hand, I must say that he managed to create such an interesting character that you will have no idea what he’s going to do the next minute. As the user Marthos said it’s a game of cat and mouse – that is really fitting for this case. All the other actors seem to be extras and Xavier is wiping his ass with them. I must say I’m really surprised. Not only does Xavier portray an interesting character, he’s even in a somewhat meaningful story. Believe me, that is not always the case. ()

English "Little mouse, come closer to me. I won't go, kitty, or you'll eat me!" That's also how you could frame the plot of this seemingly unremarkable film, which boasts a decent cast and premise, although admittedly there have been countless films about disturbed people playing psychological games. The main stumbling block is a certain confusion on the script front, as at times that "cat and mouse game" was lost in the void, and personally I have to say that I was probably expecting a bigger wow-effect at the end. All in all, an average thriller that had more potential. ()

English The conversations between the psychiatrist and the patient themselves are not bad, although it is clear at first glance who has the leading role. And it's not the psychiatrist. I didn't enjoy Bruce Greenwood's character and I didn't believe in it, which overall spoiled my impression. In terms of the plot, the movie didn't excite me much, but the madman and the nurse played by Catherine Keener were worth it. ()
