We Are Monster

Plots(1)

Based on the true story of the death of Zahid Mubarek (Aymen Hamdouchi), a first time offender who was beaten to death by fellow inmate Robert Stewart (Leeshon Alexander). We Are Monster is a fearless look at the culture of racism and ineptitude that led to Mubarek's tragic murder, and a chillingly intense look at Stewart's fractured psyche. Raw and powerful filmmaking, underpinned by Alexander's stunning performance, that strips down and challenges issues on racial tension, hatred and youth violence. (Metrodome Distribution)

English A strong story, which was rather averagely translated onto the screen, but the actual real-life event somewhat saves it. The problem with the film is that you're actually watching the internal monologue of the main character, the killer, most of the time. It is obvious that what he does is not directly from his head, that it is due to bad influences, but that does not excuse him. What he did, he did alone and of his own insane will. The final afterword is a demonstration of justice served by civilization. ()
