Since the transition and recovery of democracy Spain has hushed up anything about Franco’s dictatorship, one of the longest and most violent regimes in the twentieth century. In December 2007 the government passed the Law on Historic Memory in which it hopes to finally lift the veil on this period and do justice to the hundreds of thousands of victims of Francoism. The filmmaker José Luis Peñafuerte (the grandson of exiles) takes us on a cinematic journey through the roots of this hidden European memory in order to open a window on forgetfulness. (Alokatu)
