The film is set in the post-war era. Asya Klyachina, a pregnant lame young country woman, works in a kolkhoz, or collective farm. Despite her condition, Asya's partner is in no hurry to marry her. Another suitor from the city asks Asya for her hand in marriage, but she only has eyes for the good-for-nothing driver from the village. (Moscow International Film Festival)
