The second film in the trilogy based on the novels by Jan Guillou, this is an exhilarating mix of high drama, exotic locations and spectacular action. Once devastated by the loss of his own family through an act of revenge, the abduction of Hamilton's seven-year old goddaughter Nathalie rouses intensely painful memories. Kidnapped after her mother, the head of Swedish Security Police, made ill-advised comments to the media about Muslim separatist groups, her kidnappers demand a high price in the form of cash and political concessions. It is expectedly weaker than the first instalment, which really surprised me. The camera is shakier, the whole story sticks out like a sore thumb, and somehow I can’t shake the impression that the creators made it all at once while disregarding the quality of the narration. It’s a pity. After the first instalment, Hamilton got under my skin.
