When an ageing travel writer sets out to hike the 2,100-mile-long Appalachian Trail with a long-estranged high school buddy, the duo learn that some roads are better left untraveled. Robert Redford and Nick Nolte, two icons of cinema, are a perfect comedic pair, bringing their characters to life with exceptional nuance. As the two face off with each other and an eccentric assortment of characters, the grand trail proves to be an epic journey. Emma Thompson brilliantly counterbalances their antics as the patient companion, wise enough to let them go on this ill-conceived journey. As moving as it is playful, A Walk in the Woods proves that amid the glory of stunning vistas and Appalachian wildlife, the untamed human condition can be just as formidable. (Entertainment One)

English I don’t really feel that there are too many movies in a similar vein. I have seen The Way, then Wild, and now there is this inconspicuous A Walk in the Woods. Every one of these movies is based on some path from the real world, but each one approaches it completely differently, which, especially in this movie, I truly respect. Two old buffers decide to go on the last journey of their lives and, surprisingly, it isn’t very philosophical but rather humorous. And that’s good. The journey with them was really fun for me. Nick Nolte looks as if he were about to die during every ascent and Robert Redford, for a change, as if he were 20 years younger. There is something special about both of them and together they make a great duo that struggles through nature, but they didn’t forget what planet they are living on. I cannot help it, but that alone is very likable in my eyes. ()

English I like the premise of two nerds trying to prove something to each other and going on the hike of their lives. Personally, I would also be attracted to a similar hike, because here you can really prove what you are capable of. It's a bit deaf at times, but both acting legends are so good that you'll survive with them until the slightly uneventful end. ()
