When a family of hungry raccoons invade the bliss of Dr. Jeffery Lang's (Tobey Maguire) fantastic new backyard, he becomes obsessed with eradicating the pests by any means necessary. But his wife, Nealy (Elizabeth Banks), would prefer him to re-landscape their yard, to make it inhospitable to raccoons, rather than continuing to battle with a relentless foe. Unfortunately for Dr Lang, he does not listen to his wife and his tete-a-tete with the raccoons soon leads way to a tete-a-tete with a very meddlesome neighbour (Laura Linney) and before he knows it, Dr. Lang finds himself buried in an absurd mess of infidelity, organ donation and other assorted mayhem. When you think that raccoons, which have settled in your garden, are a big problem. Then infidelity comes, followed by another infidelity, unwanted pregnancy, and money wasted in the air. Suddenly, a lot of bad things happen and it is necessary to deal with serious problems. But it's all in such a strange atmosphere. It's not a comedy, it's not even a pure drama, as if it's not clear what the film wants to choose, which is presented in the sense that humor or drama is not used at the right moment. It's a shame, if it might have been crazier, it probably would have turned out better.
