Craig Brewer directs this remake of the 1984 teen musical. Kenny Wormald stars as Ren, a troubled city kid who moves to a small town in the deep South. There he is shocked to discover that modern music and dancing have been banned by religious extremists presided over by hellfire-and-brimstone preacher Reverend Shaw (Dennis Quaid). Joining forces with best buddy Rusty (Ziah Colon) and the preacher's headstrong daughter Ariel (Julianne Hough), Ren sets out to defy authority, turn up the music and kick the town into the 21st century. English It's a remake and nothing else. All the scenes are essentially the same, just slightly modernized, but there are no plot surprises, and many scenes literally repeat themselves, just with different actors. I don't understand what the point of such a work is. It's nice to look at, but it's just a newer copy, nothing extra. ()
