Cyrus FrischPlots(1)
First long feature film that was almost entirely shot on a mobile phone, in which maker Cyrus Frisch puts himself in the shoes of a war veteran from Afghanistan. Shooting nearly all scenes from his apartment in an Amsterdam inner court, he spies on his personal environment as if it were a battlefield. The frequently filmed street rows at the square or in the supermarket, during which police sometimes take hard-handed action against immigrant kids, create a menacing atmosphere that looms large in the film. The images, which are occasionally hard to distinguish, are sporadically alternated with short fragments from other footage. Without a voice-over, without music and without interviews, this experimental film presents a raw and realistic portrait of a society that seems to be in a constant state of fear and aggression.
