The duplication of a femme fatale in a man's mind appeared already in Saura and Chaplin's first joint film. The main character - fetishist Julian - adores an attractive but unapproachable young woman. In an artful project he gets her into his possession by transferring her image into another woman. The Pygmalionic motive reminds us of Hitchcock's Vertigo (1958) - although Saura denied this inspiration. (Summer Film School)
