Plots(1)

Former fighter pilot Ted Striker (Robert Hays) hasn't flown since the war, when an error of judgement on his part led to the decimation of his squadron. Now he has a drink problem and his girlfriend - air hostess Elaine Dickinson (Julie Hagerty) - has walked out on him. Desperate to get her back, Ted follows her onto her next flight, which goes horribly wrong when the entire cabin crew succumb to food poisoning mid-air. Aided by Elaine, the unflappable Doctor Rumack (Leslie Nielsen) and his former nemesis Rex Kramer (Robert Stack) back at air control, Ted makes a valiant effort to fly the plane to safety. But has he still got what it takes? (Paramount Pictures AU)

English This is just amazing. I know I've seen this movie before, but I'm sure I could appreciate it more now, having seen more films over the years. This is incredibly funny, and even though there are some pretty cringeworthy things here, there are also absolutely brilliant jokes that you'll appreciate only when you watch the original version. The English here has great verbal humor. Bravo, ZAZ! ()

English A classic that does not reach the quality of the best works of the famous trio of directors, but with its intelligent and omnipresent humour and unforgettable actors still ranks among the absolute best in comedy. ()

English A relaxed parody that benefits from the fact that conventions in the genre of disaster films have remained the same for years, so parodying them does not age. True, I don't get many allusions to period cinema anymore, but the parody of Saturday Night Fever is just delicious. Fasten your seatbelt, please! it offers a decent variety of gags and satisfactorily blackened humor, plus the good "overacting" of the individual actors. Fresh even after years! ()

English I have to say that after the initial opening half hour, I wanted to turn the film off because the humor was drastically lacking for a parody. But with the arrival of Leslie Nielsen on the scene (his very first role in a parody ever!), things turn around and I had a good time until the end - the gags were plentiful, the verbal turns of phrase were solid and some of the shots were downright top notch. I was expecting maybe a little more for everyone to label Airplane! as a cult classic of all parodies, and the drawn-out first half-hour makes me a little reluctant to give it that third star, but the second half really is like a completely different movie, and it's hard to believe that something like this was made almost 50 years ago. Good fun. ()

English Airplane! may have a cult status within the parody genre, but unfortunately, I didn’t get its humour. Although it has many not entirely futile references to other contemporary films, they are delivered in such a shallow manner that they left me completely cold in most cases. Lloyd Bridges probably amused me the most ("bad day to stop doing this and that") and it's a shame Leslie Nielsen didn't get more space. The central lovelorn pair were completely out of place, very far from Topper and Ramada from Hot Shots. ()
