Misi is driven by high-reaching ambitions as a poet. When he goes to his sculptor-friend's party of a happening style, he meets the staid Klári and the frivolous Magdi. Soon he becomes affectionate with Klári. Magdi, however, makes a bet: if she manages to win the young man's heart within a half an hour, she will be his. Klári catches them in the act, Misi runs away furiously. They reconcile at a harvest home, but when he makes a proposition to marry Klári, she refuses him. The deeply depressed Misi later fights against cattle-plague and a rough winter in a small village. He is deeply shocked by the death of a young orphan beggar. After a long time, his friend, Gergely, brings him the news about Klári's marriage. Misi gives up his illusions and decides to return to Budapest. (official distributor synopsis)
