The wealthy fiancée, Buday Klári, engaged to Hajnaly Ödön, head over heels in debt, makes up her mind and escapes from her wedding. Racing along the road by midnight, her car suddenly runs out of gas. Criminal reporter Lendvay Gábor offers her his help, but she furtively empties his gas-tank and drives on. They meet again in Budapest and Gábor thinks she is an accomplice to the burglars who robbed the Buday-villa, as he discovers jewels in her bag. However, it is him the police arrest, because Klári has smuggled the jewels over into his pocket. Misunderstandings are clarified and a letter from Ödön, who has been chasing Klári ever since the failed wedding, only arrives on the day of her engagement to Gábor. (official distributor synopsis)
