Young lovers Walter (Tom Hanks) and Anna (Shelley Long) are house-sitting a New York City apartment owned by Max, Anna’s ex-husband, who suddenly decides to toss them out. Needing a new home, they settle on buying a country estate outside the city, which is available for a suspiciously low price. It soon becomes apparent why, as doors fall off their hinges, staircases come tumbling down and a bathtub falls through the floor. The couple’s relationship suffers similarly. English How is it possible that I haven’t heard of this? Good old 80’s comedy starring Tom Hanks and a million-dollar premise that is technically flawless. This is basically buying a house in America and then living through some terrifying scenes that are sensational from start to finish. I only took one star off the rating because the destruction scenes, glorious as they might be, cannot hold a 90-minute movie together. Other than that, a masterpiece! ()

English There are fewer and fewer good comedies being made, so I had no choice but to look into the depths of the past. The Money Pit is primarily filled with a plethora of unusually funny gags and also features the charmingly quirky Tom Hanks. When these undeniable strengths are combined with an intellectually undemanding story that also unfolds decently, success is essentially guaranteed. At least I had a great time and I would love to do it again sometime. (75%) ()
