Plots(1)

A family day trip to the beach in Tijuana offers parents Felix and Sol some intimate time alone. But when their children Sara and Adolfo disappear near a cave, the couple, knowing a fugitive serial killer has been on the loose in the area, call in police to comb the coast. But when the kids emerge seemingly unscathed albeit detached the following day something is amiss. Soon strange disturbances begin plaguing the household and the behaviour of the siblings becomes increasingly hostile. A psychiatrist believes Sara has been sexually assaulted and the incensed Felix and Sol decide to confront the suspect. After the babysitter suffers a trauma and Sol learns that Sara and Adolfo are skipping school the mysterious events surrounding the house promise to culminate in brutal revelation and Here Comes the Devil does not disappoint. English "Here Comes the Devil" has a tense atmosphere that gradually escalates. It is not an abrupt escalation, but a gradual, creeping one, which greatly benefits the entire film. There are moments when you will no longer be sure if there are any positive characters or if they are all truly dark, including parents, children, or any other supporting roles. It incredibly helps the film and makes it a great horror experience, even though there are no jump scares. Or perhaps, precisely because of that. ()

English I’ve already praised Bogliano for Penumbra and I could copy part of that comment for Here Comes the Devil. This guy is getting better with each film, always making something more interesting. His latest looks a little artificial at first (the low budget can be seen and the visuals looked like from a South American soap opera), but that problem surprisingly disappears with time. The atmosphere works and, at least in one scene, Bogliano reminds us of his beginnings in gore. Otherwise, the film is creepily unsettling overall. ()
