A biblical soap-opera and a bitter satire denouncing modern civilization where banality meets mystery and pathos merges with grotesque. The story is set in Californian desert, and the lonesome space inhabited only by a young couple emphasises the universality of the film's message. Majewski emigrated to the USA in 1980s and the film was produced as a Polish-American co-production, with the association of David Lynch's studio. The film is simultaneously the director's reflection of the "American dream", and the search for his own artistic way. The lead role was portrayed by Viggo Mortensen, who eventually gained fame for his role in The Lord of the Rings. (Febiofest)
