Tracy Morgan: Takin' It Too Far

I know Tracy Morgan from the days of 30 Rock, a forgotten but at the same time ageless and clever sitcom. He was among the weaker characters and actors, but he was part of a likable collective and his parody of himself enabled him to occasionally come up with a sketch that tore down the barrier. I have noted his personal scandals and escapades, but I still thought and continue to think that it was a pose, an exaggeration, simply put, that he is not as bad as he sometimes seems. And yet because he comes across in this shorter special as that sort of shameless boor only during the intro and conclusion, he perfectly repulsed me. The gags are unfunny, the punchlines are stale and stupid, and he quite often offends me as a viewer by acting like a drunken teenager who emptily repeats the most banal punchline three times and stretches it out for the one viewer who just happens to be shyly and politely chuckling at that moment. One star for the private memory of Tracy Jordan, but as a whole, unequivocally the worst attempt at stand-up comedy I have ever seen. (21/09/2023)
