An ambitious BBC newsroom journalist and political chameleon James Penfield (Jonathan Pryce, Brazil) exploits his talent and position to blur the line of fiction and reality, rearranging the facts when it suits him to get the job done. Attracted to the sophisticated daughter of upper class intellectuals Penfield sets out to reinvent his rather uninspiring life in order to catch the eye of Suzie, win the approval of her parents and align himself within their elite clique. But as the lies linger and the web of deceit widens Penfield faces more than a simple retraction to save his reputation. (Umbrella Entertainment)
