It’s interesting to see comedians like Chris O’Dowd and Melissa McCarthy take on a more serious topic, even if they can’t resist slipping in some funny moments. The Starling ends up being one of those classic family dramas with a heavy dose of melancholy. The story is pretty sad, but it gets a lift from its namesake — a little bird that plays a crucial role. Somehow, this makes the heavy subject matter a bit easier to watch. ()
