Biography

Celina Murga was born in Parana, Argentina in 1973. She studied film direction at Universidad del Cine. In 2003 she directed her first feature film: “Ana and the Others”, which premiered at Venice and was acclaimed all around the world. In 2008, “A Week Alone”, her second film, followed the same path at Venice Film festival being awarded in several film festivals.

In 2009 she was selected by the renowned American film director Martin Scorsese to take part of the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative, spending a year working and learning under the mentorship of Mr. Scorsese. In 2012, she presented as World Premiere at the Forum of the Berlinale, her documentary “Normal School”, winning a Special Mention at the Caligari Award.

In 2013, Venice Film Festival invited her to be one of the 70 directors participating in the project VENEZIA 70. Future Reloaded. In this project, each film director shot a one minute short film talking about the future of cinema. This feature film premiered at Venice Film Festival. “The Third Side of the River '' was presented as a World Premiere at the Official Competition of the Berlinale 2014. It was a co-production between Argentina, Germany and Holland with the executive production of Martin Scorsese.

Celina has been jury member in several Film Festivals as MAr del Plata, Valdivia, Munich, Fribourg and Toulouse. She also works as a teacher.
