Biography
David Hennings known for his spectacular cinematography in such films as John Stockwell's surfing movie Blue Crush, is also regarded as one of the initial pioneers in the use of electronic remote camera systems, a crucial advance in cinematography.
Hennings attended the University of Miami, Florida where he studied film. After a fellowship at the American Film Institute, Hennings began his film career specializing in camera operating and support on the Louma Crane Remote system, considered revolutionary for its time. He was the first in Hollywood to use the Technocrane Remote System, christening it for three-time Academy Award® winning Cinematographer Robert Richardson on his film The Doors.
Hennings would make his cinematography debut on Robert Lieberman's D3: The Mighty Ducks.
He has repeatedly collaborated with several directors including: Peter Berg (Very Bad Things); Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses, the pilot for ABC's The Goldbergs and the Fox series Breaking In); John Stockwell (Blue Crush and HBO's Cheaters); Peter Chelsom (Hannah Montana: The Movie) and Andy Fickman (You Again, his first teaming with Last Vegas Editor David Rennie). His work can be seen in CBS Films' Get A Job produced by Michael Shamberg and Anthony Burns' North of Hell.
Hennings television credits include: Fox' hit series Modern Family and the network's K-Ville, as well as the pilots for Enlisted and The Station; and, the pilot for ABC's The Middle.
He has shot music video for artists: Madonna, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Alison Krauss, John Mellencamp, Pink Floyd and Annie Lennox.
Working with such directors as Seth Gordon, David Steinberg, and Richard Keen, Hennings has shot commercials for: Nike, BMW, Target, McDonald's, Hallmark, Taco Bell, Comcast, TV Land, AIU and Smuckers.
