He began his career with the multi-award-winning cult short film Mamá. He debuted with the feature film Torremolinos 73, winning national and international awards, with a double Goya nomination for screenplay and first-time director. His second feature Blancanieves won the Special Jury Prize at the San Sebastian Festival and won 10 Goya Awards including Best Film and Original Screenplay. For his latest film Abracadabra Berger was nominated for a Goya for Best Original Screenplay and the film received 7 other nominations.
