Biography

After the coup d’état that ended the government and life of Salvador Allende, Patricio Guzmán directed the trilogy La batalla de Chile (The Battle of Chile, 1975-1979), looking at events during those years and whose third instalment participated in the Official Selection at the San Sebastian Film Festival. Also worthy of note in his filmography are El caso Pinochet (The Pinochet Case, 2001), Salvador Allende (2004) and Nostalgia de la luz (Nostalgia for the Light, 2010, Best Documentary at the European Film Academy awards), the first part of a trilogy dedicated to the Chilean territory completed with El botón de nácar (The Pearl Button, 2015) and La cordillera de los sueños (The Cordillera of Dreams). All three films were included in Horizontes Latinos at San Sebastian. La cordillera de los sueños received the Oeil d’Or for Best Documentary at the Cannes Festival.
