Mainak Dhar worked as an Assistant Director to Prakash Jha in Gangaajal before moving to L.A. with the goal of watching as many movies as possible during the next three years before returning to India to start making his own, but life and love interceded in his way. Mainak has been working as an editor. In 2014 he transited from editor to director with Honk for Steve, a short documentary. Separar is a short film in-between of his Mumblecore-influenced project of making a zero budget film trilogy, 417 Miles being the first film.
