Biography
Born Conchata Galen Ferrell on March 28 in Charleston, West Virginia, to Luther Martin Ferrell and Mescal Loraine (George) Ferrell, she attended West Virginia University and Marshall University. She graduated from Marshall with a degree in social studies in education.
Conchata Ferrell achieved stardom as the housekeeper Berta in the situation comedy Two and a Half Men. It took her role in support of stars Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer to get the attention her talent richly deserved. This role garnered Ferrell two Primetime Emmy nominations as Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2005 and 2007.
The show has received multiple Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series and has won four People's Choice Awards. Upon Sheen's departure, Ashton Kutcher joined the cast, breathing new life into the hit series and making it the longest running (12 years) show on the air.
Ferrell's turn as April in the off-Broadway production of Lanford Wilson's Hot L Baltimore led her to Los Angeles with a starring role in the Norman Lear series of the same name.
For her role on L.A. Law, Ferrell was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Some notable series work included St. Elsewhere, Judging Amy and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Her film credits include Sidney Lumet's Network, Donald Petrie's Mystic Pizza, Steven Soderbergh's Erin Brockovich and Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands and Frankenweenie.
For her off-Broadway appearance as Gertrude Blum in Edward J. Moore's The Sea Horse, Ferrell won Drama Desk, Theatre World and Obie Awards as Best Actress in 1974.
Ferrell actively supports the arts and participates in various charities. She resides in Los Angeles and is married with one daughter.
