Biography

With fifty years of experience and nearly thirty credits to his name, he made his directorial debut in 1978 with Las palabras de Max, a film that won the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. Since then, he has built a career that combines significant commercial success with critical acclaim. Among his commercial successes are El otro lado de la cama and its sequel, Los dos lados de la cama, which together grossed 20 million euros. In terms of critical success, Las 13 rosas stands out, winning four Goya Awards and being nominated for a dozen more. His film Ocho apellidos vascos became the highest-grossing Spanish film in history, and its sequel, Ocho apellidos catalanes, attracted a total of fifteen million viewers.
