21 Grams (2003)

English An utterly complex masterpiece, bursting with fantastically staged scenes and terrific acting performances. The raw, out-of-focus cinematography and spare visual aesthetic that multiplies the authenticity is a delight.

21 Jump Street (2012)

English It's pleasantly vulgar and controversial, but in terms of storyline, it's a boring and sterile affair. So, except for a few gags and several solid jokes, it's nothing but a blend of unusual situations and a few solid shots. Not really a comedy, nor a crime story. It's certainly unconventional, but it didn't really entertain me that much. The chemistry was slightly lacking.

24 (2001) (series)

English A dynamic series, but 8 seasons may be a bit too much. There are interesting plot twists, but there is also a lack of subtlety and unnecessary stretching. It's acceptable, but three or four seasons would be ideal. Surprisingly, for an action series, with a few exceptions, it doesn’t have very high-quality action scenes.

25th Hour (2002)

English Stunning performances by everyone involved, the director's passion for the material, and brilliantly precise dialogues make this film a very unusual and original experience. A barrage of emotions that attacks the viewer from all sides, leaving them no chance to escape. Spike Lee's commitment to the material occasionally leads to a few unnecessary scenes that shatter the overall balance and flow of the plot, but what the hell, it is still strongly above-average filmmaking, and the people behind it definitely have nothing to be ashamed of. A perspective on the modern world, presented in a way that almost nobody can dislike.

28 Days Later (2002)

English The film that discovered Cillian Murphy, an actor with an exceptional voice, charisma to spare, and who has masterfully played often alternative characters in films of various genres, for example, 28 Days Later, a pared-down, raw piece in an incredibly grainy and authentic execution that appeals only to a select few connoisseurs.

28 Weeks Later (2007)

English Although 28 Weeks Later is several years younger than the first film, it doesn't even come close to it in terms of technical aspects. Where Boyle was not afraid to show aggressiveness and rawness, combined with precise handheld camera work, Fresnadillo is searching for which direction to actually take. Ninety percent of the action sequences are confusing, and instead of a naturalistic survival ride, we have ketchup-like exhibitions such as a helicopter in a field or shooting at civilians. The screenplay itself is shockingly full of holes, with several twists bordering on the stupid, and the fact that the characters are relatively unpredictable – meaning you have no idea who will pull the trigger – is nice, but in the flood of directorial incompetence, technical impotence, and script incompleteness, it is really not a solution.

2 Guns (2013)

English It's a strictly entertaining film for people who are into crime dramas and similar films and have famous quotes and various references of the main characters stuck in their heads. For them, 2 Guns will be a pleasant parody with several interesting moments and an excellent central duo. For the rest, it will be just a decent heist crime comedy with interesting performances.

300: Rise of an Empire (2014)

English Pity that digital blood (intentionally, but still not good) and low-end makers, because if it had been directed again Snyder, with an A-list cast and more polished visuals, it could have been the hit of the year. The screenplay is surprisingly skillful well-executed screenplay, Eva Green is the woman of the year and even the protagonist wasn't that terrible. The battles, however, are controversial and the overall visuals are inconsistent, they are occasionally clever and clear, sometimes awful and chaotic. Contradictory thing, but I liked the uncompromising rating and this film orgasm that may not be surpassed this year.

30 Days of Night (2007)

English An incredibly effective and bloody carnage, but narratively meaningless and rather empty. We actually don't find out anything substantial. Where the vampires came from, how they survive, where they hide, who was their envoy, how did he suddenly appear out of nowhere just a stone's throw away from the town, which had no living soul within 100 kilometers, and many other questions that are hard to find an answer to (and definitely not between the lines). The monsters are mindless roaring freaks, only scary thanks to the good timing of scenes and captivating snowy atmosphere. But we should appreciate the R-rating, the brutal Hartnett, and the quite solid pace. Otherwise, it's primarily a showcase of bloody effects and severed limbs.

3:10 to Yuma (2007)

English Very well designed sets, with the rough realities of the wild west and everything that belongs to it, and unfortunately also a quite crazy ending, which undermines the whole thing. The last five minutes are truly unbelievable. If the director meant it as irony, then I didn't perceive its sophistication. But if the final confession of the villain was supposed to be sincere, then it was very laughable. By the way, Russel Crowe as a smart bandit is captivating – even better than Christian Bale. The action is relatively dull and uninteresting, with unrealistic shootouts, several obvious dead ends where the heroes miraculously avoid being shot, just like running through a rain of bullets without any getting hit. Alan Tudyk is excellent as a psychopath, his character was absolutely unpredictable. How good of a western 3:10 to Yuma is, is something you have to judge for yourself. Some will like it, some will not. However, it is neither old-school nor renaissance, this product has too many modern, mainstream elements.
