The Terminal List (2022) (series)

English Dead man walking... Chris Pratt pulls on the same boots he had in Zero Dark Thirty, where he was the one to put a hole in Bin Laden’s head and James Reece approaches things here in a similar manner. A professional for whom killing is his daily bread and he also has powerful motivation to uncover the ugly secret behind the elimination of his entire team. The slow death of the main hero, manifesting itself in fragmented memories of his family life, gives the series a touch of hopelessness and Pratt makes full use of this. This is a lively conspiration thriller, spiced up by Carr, a former sniper with the Marines, bringing us authentic military behavior, which, in addition to the bloody action, offers a good story that makes you want to watch the whole of The Terminal List in one go. The occasional screenwriting hiccup and neck-breaking dialog may be forgiven as cases of beginner’s imprudence. Where the fuck are my pills?

I Am Groot (2022) (series)

English I was surprised to hear to a lot of people just don’t understand why this series was made... The short and mostly hard-hitting finger food for kids, meant to make fans out of them at the earliest possible age and to encourage them to buy the toys. Job well done: my daughter was over the moon, which means that I can buy her a Groot for Christmas, instead of a Barbie. Thanks! If only all toy commercials were this pleasant. The most entertaining episode is a variation on a horror story from 1972 by Stephen King horror story called "Battleground" and the finale, Magnum Opus, which depicts the creativity inside an innocent child’s mind.

Prey (2022)

English Just my sort of Disney movie. No need to make a live action version of Pocahontas... Trachtenberg slowly but effectively builds the atmosphere in the style of the original Predator and carefully calculates where to pull out the trumps just at the right moment in the story. The camerawork, production design and the overall atmosphere swallows you up and doesn’t let you go for an instant in the second half. Midthunder is completely convincing as the young Indian girl and carries the entire movie effortlessly on her shoulders. Although the message that technique and details are much more important for killing than strength is rendered invalid with the pistol handed over at the end, which indicates what then had to happen in the epilog, but maybe the filmmakers are just preparing the ground for a sequel, who knows?

Bullet Train (2022)

English This will be an evergreen. This loud-mouthed and extremely entertaining Guy Ritchie-style gangster comedy combines with inventive Wick-style action with OTT humor. This time Leitch shows his best, not just as a great action director, but also as a good storyteller who doesn’t forget the point and somebody capable of alternating genres very naturally. The cast is wonderful. Pitt is clearly enjoying himself immensely as Ladybug, but Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Tangerine does his best at hogging the spotlight. Bullet Train is a potential cult movie which has come under greater scrutiny and been played at movie theaters only thanks to Brad Pitt’s aura. Thanks for that, Brad!

Lightyear (2022)

English An adventurous romp through time and space. The story grabs you right from the start and doesn’t let go. Pixar came up with an unexpected idea of making this movie featuring the hero who was so important for Andy from Toy Story. Lightyear isn’t so much for today’s kids as it is for people who were kids back in 1995, a bit like Andy. The only thing in this movie that maybe has anything to say to the kids of today is Sox the Cat. The movie is amazing in visual terms. A wonderfully designed and created spaceship and beautiful alien landscapes. A feast for the eyes. Giacchino’s music is great again. Will there be a sequel, or a solo for Woody?

The Umbrella Academy - Season 3 (2022) (season)

English A shame about the constant time-wasting and the absolutely excruciating dialogs about Vanya’s transformation into an unpleasant boy. All discussions about relationships here bore one to tears and the first half would be absolutely unbearable without Number Five and his storyline. In comparison with the comic, this isn’t in any way bizarre. This is a completely different level of madness, which Way and Bá are specialists at. The screenplay deserved greater care, but if this is the last season, ok; it was fairly easy viewing and nice.

Uncharted (2022)

English I haven’t played the game and I enjoyed this. A modern Indy with lively action, snappy one-liners and entertaining heroes. But it isn’t particularly clever, but at least one twist had me surprised. Two opulent action sequences - the plane and the boats work smoothly, but ignorance of the laws of physics is sometimes a bit annoying. Quite soon, Tom Holland stops being so reminiscent of Peter Parker and in places carries the movie effortlessly on his shoulders. Most of the time, Wahlberg is a self-centered bastard, but reels off some great one-liners. I’m still disappointed that it wasn’t Carnahan who directed this, but in the end it worked out really good.

The Gray Man (2022)

English The Gray Man is about as sophisticated as Arnold’s Commando, but the opulent, senseless destruction and action led by the highly amusing Chris "Lloyd" Evans is well worth it. Exotic and more familiar locations run past you like on a conveyor belt. Gosling enjoys his bored, idiosyncratic agent and Billy Bob is pretty fine too. A pleasant Netflix B-movie which is all the better for the fact that I and my family had the chance to watch the best scenes of it being filmed. "Get comfortable" like we're going to Prague, or... or, like, jail comfortable?

Baymax! (2022) (series)

English Baymax basically walks around town, helping people, animals, whether they want help or not. A pleasant development on the original movie, but the episode with the lesson about LBGT+Q and first period was a little weird. The human characters are rather 1D. The best ones, apart from Baymax, are the cats.

Stranger Things - Season 4 (2022) (season)

English The Duffer bros reveal history, explain and clarify, shock and amaze. Despite the bother of a series of ritual murders, season four makes it to a grand finale, tying up all the loose ends in an unbelievable ending that leaves the door wide open for lots more adventures. I was surprised by the number of dead bodies and horrifying injuries and the mind-pitting duels are done excellently. The perfect accompanying music is enhanced by hits from the eighties, my favorite being Master of Puppets. P.S.: And we get a whole lot of other period details, be it Conan’s Sword, King’s Talisman and the series has at last reached the year of my birth, 1986!
