English Star! is a tribute to Anglo-American musical theater, made famous by Broadway, and not least, the star system created by American film studios. The musical diva is more similar to the film stars of the golden era of Hollywood. It was a great role for Julie Andrews, whose singing and dancing skills are a significant part of the film. Despite the high hopes placed on it by the studio, the film had only a modest commercial impact and subsequent developments did not turn it into one of the genre's legends. To some extent, I think the absence of a crucial dramatic conflict is to blame. We simply follow the career of an ambitious actress who devotes her whole life to her success. Overall impression: 75%.
