Norwegian Marius is an actor and filmmaker, who embarks on a quest for his Japanese mother, who disappeared without a trace twenty years before. A real genre geek, Marius shoots the various stages of his quest in different genres, from noir to horror to animation.
A truly unique documentary channelling real life by way of fantastic cinema. Code Name: Nagasaki is a rare example of using imagination and fantasy to channel a real-life situation. It elevates the difficult search and encounter into a level of a full-blown drama by giving us an insight into the inner world of the main protagonist Marius for whom all the events are ground breaking and world-defining. What is even more important, is the fact that the fantasy world of Marius is governed by the genre films ranging from noir, through jidaigeki to horror. In a beautiful animated sequence, the film reaches its emotional climax. A truly unique documentary channelling real life by way of fantastic cinema.
