From horror maestro John Gilling comes one of the most unusual revenge thrillers of the 1960s. After masterminding the murder of a wealthy old woman, her husband, manservant and housekeeper assume they have gotten away scot-free. Unbeknownst to them, there is a witness to the crime - the woman’s beloved house cat. Once placid and gentle, the pet transforms into a ferocious feline hell bent on revenge, planning elaborate ways to take out the treacherous trio of fortune hunters one-by-one. The Shadow of the Cat is another film from Hammer Studios that definitely did not disappoint. It has something interesting and inventive about it. It's a shame that the film shows its age too much, with the ravages of time evident, as well as the limitations of the technology available at the time of filming. As a gothic horror, however, the film is still worth your attention and shouldn't be overlooked. ()
