From horror maestro John Gilling comes one of the most unusual revenge thrillers of the 1960s. After masterminding the murder of a wealthy old woman, her husband, manservant and housekeeper assume they have gotten away scot-free. Unbeknownst to them, there is a witness to the crime - the woman’s beloved house cat. Once placid and gentle, the pet transforms into a ferocious feline hell bent on revenge, planning elaborate ways to take out the treacherous trio of fortune hunters one-by-one. "The Shadow of the Cat" is another film from the Hammer studio that certainly doesn't disappoint and has something interesting and original about it. It's a pity that it is quite evident in the film that it is very old and that the ravages of time have taken their toll on it, as well as the unavailability of better technology during the filming period. However, as a gothic horror, the film still deserves attention and should not just be forgotten. ()
