When young writer Stingo (Peter MacNicol) moves to Brooklyn in 1947 to begin work on his first novel, nothing prepares him for the life-changing emotional journey ahead. Forging a friendship with Polish refugee Sophie Zawistowska (Meryl Streep) and her moody lover Nathan Landau (Kevin Kline, A Fish Called Wanda), the trio enjoy each others’ company over Summer time. But Stingo soon discovers a dark secret behind Sophie’s smile. Learning of her Holocaust survival and the scars of her past, Stingo is intensely drawn to Sophie and all that she represents.
