Technological progress is unstoppable. More and more, people are surrounding themselves with objects that place them at an even greater distance from the world of nature. The opinions of aboriginals who continue to live their original way of life contains an important warning. This particularly applies when it concerns witnesses of nuclear testing. Nyarri Morgan is a Martu man, a member of a tribe that, until the 1960s, lived in one of Australia’s deserts, completely unaffected by the conveniences of Western culture. However, it was slightly before that when he witnessed the shocking intervention of man in what was previously an undefiled landscape: the testing of an atom bomb. Without any context or warning, he saw a clash between cruel technology and a defenceless planet. Now, many decades later, Nyarri has the opportunity to show what he experienced and how his world changed. This virtual reality documentary draws the spectator into the beauty of Nyarri’s Australian home, combined with animated reminders of long-ago explosions, relativising the view of a world filled with comfort and technology.
