When he is the only survivor of a cop shooting, hard-nosed Jack Cates (Nick Nolte) springs prison inmate Reggie Hammond (Eddie Murphy) from jail for just 48 hours to help him catch the perpetrators. Cates knows that he can rely on Reggie's assistance, as the killers are now heading for the half-million stash of dollars for which the jailbird went down in the first place. (Paramount Pictures AU)

English Certainly a classic from the point of view of the genre, but only a routine and unremarkable spectacle from the point of view of filmmaking. Nolte and Murphy are great and they deliver a lot of wisecracks, but their potential completely disappears after some time in the rather stale concept of two annoying heroes, which is perhaps the only decent motif here. As an unpretentious diversion, it's not bad at all, but 48 Hours doesn't get even close to The Last Boy Scout. 70% ()
