Berinday György, a young engineer and a businessman, was the letter-friend of Mária, a Hungarian girl, whom he had never actually seen. While in touch via correspondence, he fell in love with the girl. Kökény Tóbiás, his friend, is an actor, whom he asks to help find the girl. The actor finds his friend's letter-friend, who is the old and ugly owner of a famous cosmetics studio. Kökény, the engineer's tactful friend, asks Mancika, his landlord's nice-looking daughter, who wants to become an actress, to pose as the unknown lady. At the same time, he decides, in an act of self-sacrifice, to pose as the fiancé from Africa. The young people fall in love with each other, and the pseudo-fiancé from Africa marries the owner of the cosmetics studio. (official distributor synopsis)
